STEM Training and Coaching Services Consultant

General Summary/Overview


The PEAR Institute: Partnerships in Education and Resilience at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School creates and fosters evidence-based innovations in social-emotional learning (SEL) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in youth-serving organizations. PEAR provides trainings and assessment tools that inform educational programs and professionals about program quality in schools and afterschool settings.


The STEM Training and Coaching Services Consultant will provide coaching, training, support, and services to clients and partners using The PEAR Institute’s STEM tools. The STEM Training and Coaching Services Consultant will be responsible for providing client services, including coaching and training.


The STEM Training and Coaching Services Consultant will manage services pertaining to PEAR’s STEM tools, including custom service, training, and coaching for clients. This role requires significant experience in STEM activities and youth programming, as well as training and client service experience. The STEM Training and Coaching Services Consultant must have excellent judgment and content knowledge.


The PEAR Institute seeks an individual experienced in education, STEM and the dynamics of schools and afterschool programs, with an interest in using data to propel the academic success and wellness of diverse youth, for this dynamic position. The ideal candidate must have a passion for improving the lives of children and addressing the inequities that affect their ability to succeed in school and life. PEAR is seeking candidates with personal and/or professional knowledge of the issues facing underserved communities, communities of color, and those living in poverty, particularly in the realm of education.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Lead Facilitator for PEAR STEM trainings

  • Provide coaching to school and afterschool staff in the use and integration of PEAR’s STEM tools

  • Interpret data collected using PEAR STEM tools and incorporate into school/program planning processes

  • Present PEAR STEM work at local and national events and meetings

  • Conduct observations of STEM activities (in person or using video) using PEAR STEM tools

  • Collaborate with PEAR STEM research and evaluation managers on the coordination of special client projects

  • Manage scheduling and delivery of STEM trainings, including webinar technical support and written feedback to trainees

  • Master’s Degree in the areas of education, science education, or related fields

  • 5-8 years teaching, training, or related work experience


  • Strong facilitation and training skills

  • Comfortable communicating in a professional manner about specific tools and strategies to clients using phone, e-mail, and webinars.

  • Capable of interpreting and using data to inform educational practice

  • Proficient in use of webinar software (e.g., AdobeConnect, Zoom, or similar)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Commitment to diversity of thought, backgrounds, and youth leadership.

  • Bi-lingual and/or bi-cultural a plus.

  • Experience facilitating or co-facilitating professional development sessions

  • Attention to detail, ability to show initiative and flexibility, meet deadlines, work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong communication and people skills. 

  • Interest in data and evaluation for programming and reporting.

  • Must be highly organized, able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities, and adaptable in fast changing situations.
