What Does PEAR Coaching Look Like?

Adult Students

  Whole-School Skill Focus

Whole-School Focus on Perseverance A middle school partnered with a PEAR coach to turn data into action. After analyzing their Holistic Student Assessment results, the school identified Perseverance as a key growth area across grade levels. With PEAR’s guidance, they launched a schoolwide initiative that embedded the skill of Perseverance into every corner of the learning environment.

  • Advisory sessions kicked off the semester with focused discussions.
  • Classroom lessons across all subjects reinforced the theme through skill practice and reflection.
  • The semester culminated in schoolwide celebrations, showcasing students’ hard work, growth, and determination.

By aligning staff around a shared goal and integrating targeted skill-building throughout the school day, this project transformed a single data point into a culture shift—and gave students a powerful framework for personal and academic resilience.

  Grade-Specific Skill Building

Grade-Specific Advisories Built from Student Data

At a high school working with PEAR, the Student Support Team dug into their Holistic Student Assessment data and uncovered a clear insight: each grade level had distinct strengths and challenges.

With the support of their PEAR coach, the school restructured its advisory program to better meet students where they were developmentally. Instead of a one-size-fits-all model, they created grade-specific advisories—each one strategically designed to address the unique needs of that cohort.

This targeted approach allowed educators to:
  • Deliver more relevant and resonant support to students

  • Foster stronger grade-level identity and connection

  • Equip staff with the right tools to support evolving social-emotional needs

The result? A more responsive, student-centered advisory structure—and a stronger foundation for every student’s growth.

  Using Data to Guide Grouping

Integrating Data into Student Support Systems

An elementary school partnered with PEAR to strengthen how students were selected for social skills groups and lunch bunches.

Previously, group placements were based solely on teacher referrals—often through informal email requests—without a clear, data-informed process.

With guidance from their PEAR coach, the school developed a structured system that combined Holistic Student Assessment (HSA) data with classroom insights.

This new approach enabled the coordinator to:
  • Identify students based on strengths and areas of need
  • Align group placements with specific developmental goals
  • Ensure every student received the right support at the right time

The result was a more equitable and effective system—one that put student data at the center of decision-making and empowered staff to act with confidence and purpose.

  Tier 3 Student Planning

Building Support Structures for Tier 3 Students

At one school, PEAR coaching helped transform the way staff identified and supported students with the most intensive needs. Using Holistic Student Assessment (HSA) data, the team uncovered a group of Tier 3 students who had previously gone unnoticed by traditional referral methods.

With guidance from their PEAR coach, the school designed and implemented a system to ensure no high-need student fell through the cracks:

  • After each HSA cycle, the school counselor compiled a list of Tier 3 students.
  • A dedicated multi-staff meeting was held for each student, bringing together every adult who interacted with them—teachers, specialists, counselors, and support staff.
  • Team members shared observed strengths, challenges, and prior strategies.
  • The group then co-developed a strengths-based, data-informed intervention plan tailored to each student’s needs.

This system ensured that Tier 3 students received coordinated, compassionate support—and that staff had a shared, actionable strategy for helping them thrive.
